Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, explained that his previous assurance of reduced food prices within 180 days was disrupted by unforeseen global factors.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News on Friday, Kyari noted that food prices vary across different regions, with some areas experiencing lower costs while others face steeper increases. He emphasized that the issue is not unique to Nigeria but part of a global trend affecting many nations.

“The surge in food prices stems from the lasting impacts of COVID-19, climate change, and the Ukraine war. These factors have contributed to the inflation of food costs, not just in Nigeria but worldwide,” he said.

Kyari further highlighted that supply and demand dynamics also play a role in price fluctuations. He reassured Nigerians that the government is working to increase food production, which should help stabilize prices over time.

“Our focus is on boosting production. When supply increases while demand remains steady, prices will naturally drop. That is the approach we are taking to address the situation,” he added.
