Female Senator Urged To Back Down: Olujimi Intervenes In Akpabio Lawsuit Drama

Former Senate Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi, has urged Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to drop her ₦100 billion defamation lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

On February 25, the Senate referred Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review. She later alleged that her troubles in the Senate started after she rejected sexual advances from Akpabio, leading her to file a lawsuit against him.

Olujimi described Akpoti-Uduaghan’s request for a live broadcast of her Senate probe as excessive, stating that seat reassignments are a normal practice in the Senate and should not be overblown. She also defended Akpabio, portraying him as someone known for his lighthearted nature and frequent jokes.

“In the 8th and 9th Senate, we never had such issues. Senator Akpabio was one of us, and he treated female senators with decorum,” she said.

Furthermore, Olujimi cautioned that female politicians should avoid appearing emotionally unstable in public disputes.

“I appeal to her to withdraw the case. Women need to be strong enough to face men in politics without seeming emotionally unstable. Taking a presiding officer to court is not the best approach. I understand she is hurt, but this matter should be handled differently,” she added.
