Atiku argued that the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the House of Assembly was politically motivated rather than based on security concerns.

Speaking at a world press conference in Abuja alongside Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi, Atiku condemned the move and demanded its immediate reversal.

He urged lawmakers to reject the measure when presented for approval and called on the judiciary to swiftly strike down what he described as an unconstitutional power grab. Additionally, he appealed to civil society groups and Nigerians to stand in defense of democracy, asserting that Rivers State is not a conquered territory.
