NYSC DG Urges Corps Members to Avoid Social Media Misuse
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned corps members against the frivolous use of social media, advising them to exercise discretion throughout their service year and beyond.
Nafiu gave the advice on Wednesday while addressing the 2025 Batch A, Stream 2 corps members currently undergoing orientation at the NYSC camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
He acknowledged the relevance of social media in modern times but warned that its misuse could have far-reaching consequences.
“Use social media responsibly. Avoid turning to it for issues that can be resolved with those around you. The consequences of abusing social media can be severe — both now and in the future,” the NYSC boss warned.
He congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their academic programmes, which qualified them for national service, and encouraged them to see the one-year NYSC programme as an opportunity to build themselves for future leadership roles.
Nafiu emphasized the importance of dedication, diligence, and loyalty in their service to the nation, urging them to uphold a sense of patriotism and give their best throughout the programme.
In his welcome remarks, the NYSC Kwara State Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, described the DG’s visit as morale-boosting, stating that it would further encourage the corps members in their commitment to national service.
He disclosed that a total of 2,290 corps members are currently participating in the orientation exercise in the state.
