Tinubu Swears In Muttaqha Darma As New Housing Minister

According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Dr. Muttaqha Darma as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development during a brief ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The swearing-in took place inside the President’s Conference Room shortly before 4:00 p.m., where Dr. Darma took the oath of office, formally assuming responsibility as a member of the Federal Executive Council.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Darma served as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund. His nomination was earlier submitted to the Senate by President Tinubu and subsequently read on the floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He was confirmed after undergoing a screening exercise conducted by lawmakers on Thursday.

During his screening, Dr. Darma pledged to collaborate closely with the National Assembly to address Nigeria’s housing deficit, which continues to impact millions of citizens. He also outlined his commitment to improving leadership efficiency within the ministry, expanding access to affordable housing, and strengthening key institutions responsible for housing delivery across the country.

He takes over from Ahmed Dangiwa, who recently vacated the position following a minor reshuffle within the Federal Executive Council. The changes were announced earlier in the week by the Presidency.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, explained that the cabinet adjustments were aimed at enhancing coordination in governance and supporting the administration’s ongoing economic agenda under the Renewed Hope initiative.

Following the announcement, the outgoing minister, Ahmed Dangiwa, formally handed over the ministry in compliance with directives from the Office of the SGF, completing the transition process.
