The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has strongly condemned the recent demolition of Karsana II community by a private developer, denouncing the act as reckless, illegal, and deeply inhumane.

According to iReporter Online, Maikalangu visited the affected area on Saturday, expressing outrage over the large-scale destruction allegedly carried out by Oceanic Properties and Equilibrium Concept. He revealed that the developers bulldozed residential buildings, a church, and the palace of the community’s traditional ruler—reportedly without any formal notice, court order, or compensation to the residents.

“These are indigenous Nigerians who have lived here long before the Federal Capital Territory was established,” Maikalangu lamented. “They woke up to find their homes flattened, with no court directive or warning. Where do you expect them to sleep tonight? This is barbaric and unacceptable.”

According to iReporter Online, the AMAC Chairman vowed to take legal action against the developers and demanded swift intervention from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. He emphasized that the displaced families are now homeless and in dire need of help, warning that no new development would be permitted on the contested land until justice is fully served.

“This is more than a land issue; this is about people whose lives have been upended. If I see the developer here again, I might forget I’m the AMAC Chairman. These are our people and we owe them protection,” Maikalangu declared.

He further described the situation as a humanitarian disaster and a looming security threat, urging the FCT authorities to investigate the possibility of internal compromise within the Development Control unit, “If this action was unauthorized, we need to know who empowered these developers. If there’s any collusion within the system, we will expose it,” he added.

According to iReporter Online, community youths were caught off guard by the demolition. Dikko Jezhi, the Youth Secretary of Karsana II, recounted how residents were at work when bulldozers arrived under police protection. “By the time we returned, everything was gone. This is where our ancestors were born. Now, we have no place to go,” he said with frustration.

Jezhi warned that continuous disregard for the rights of indigenous communities may provoke unrest. “They’re pushing us to the wall. We don’t want to resort to violence, but how do you stay peaceful when your land and livelihood are stolen without compensation?”
