A former Chairman of Lapai Local Government Area in Niger State, Isah Saidu Baka, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to reports, Baka submitted his resignation letter dated July 22, 2025, to the PDP leadership in Muye/Egba Ward and the state chapter, citing personal and political reasons for his departure.

In his resignation letter, Baka stated that after extensive consultations with family, political associates, and constituents, he decided to leave the PDP in pursuit of a political platform that better aligns with his vision and the aspirations of his supporters. “This decision was not taken lightly, but it reflects my commitment to a new direction that prioritizes grassroots development and effective representation,” he said.

Baka, who governed Lapai LGA from 2011 to 2014 and contested the Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency seat under the PDP in 2023, expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities it afforded him. “I remain appreciative of the experiences and relationships built during my time in the PDP, and I wish the party continued success,” he added.

Political analysts note that Baka’s defection is part of a growing trend of PDP members in Niger State switching allegiance ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling potential shifts in the state’s political dynamics.
