Wike Pushes Back as Lawal Calls Tinubu ‘Unapproachable,’ Slams Amaechi, ADC

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has forcefully responded to former SGF Babachir Lawal’s claim that President Tinubu and his administration are “unapproachable,” asserting that such criticism stems from personal disappointment—according to IReporter Online.

Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike asked rhetorically,

“When you say Mr. President is unapproachable and the government is unapproachable, what do you call a government?”
He explained that the President delegates public access through ministers and advisers, making direct access by every citizen impractical.

According to IReporter Online, Wike revealed that Lawal visited him in Port Harcourt shortly after Tinubu selected Kashim Shettima as his running mate—an appointment Lawal expected for himself, fueling his resentment and public attacks.

Shifting focus, Wike also launched a pointed criticism at former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi and the ADC, insisting Amaechi lacks “moral authority” to speak on corruption, noting unresolved scandals from his time as governor.

“A man comes to tell you he will solve the issue of corruption in one month. But this same man closed down the State High Court for almost two years… Can such a man really fight corruption?” he declared.

He pointed to court rulings from the judiciary up to the Supreme Court that upheld verdicts against Amaechi, further accusing him of mismanaging billions of naira in public infrastructure projects—such as a botched monorail, the lost foundation of Kalibu Heart Hospital, and the sale of government planes and gas assets.

On the broader political landscape, according to IReporter Online, Wike dismissed the ADC—into which Amaechi recently defected—as politically impotent, noting that recent by-elections show Nigerians have “nothing to gain” from it.

“There’s no coalition. A real coalition happened when CPC, ACN, and some PDP members merged to form the APC. A bunch of party-hoppers doesn’t make a coalition,” he declared.
“From the by-elections, how can you say Nigerians are looking up to the ADC? They have nothing to show.”

Wike also defended the Tinubu government’s reform agenda, including steps against terrorism—highlighting praise from the US and UK security agencies—and the gradual easing of hardship following fuel subsidy removal.

“Governance involves teamwork; Nigerians should channel concerns through ministers—not expect direct access to the President,” according to IReporter Online.
