ASUU Mobilizes Members Across Nigeria, Hints At Looming Strike Action”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced it is mobilizing members nationwide for a coordinated rally slated for Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in a renewed effort to compel the Federal Government to address its unresolved demands.

According to iReporter Online, the announcement was made during a press briefing held at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti on Monday by ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun.

He explained that the rallies are the union’s first major response to what it describes as the government’s prolonged inaction on key issues affecting public universities.

Egbedokun stated that the protests would take place simultaneously across all federal and state universities, and that academic activities would be suspended for the duration of the demonstrations.

According to iReporter Online, Egbedokun also revealed that the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU has given the government until its next meeting on August 28 to respond meaningfully to the union’s demands.

He added that failure to do so would determine ASUU’s next course of action, warning that the union’s patience had worn thin.

“For over two years, we have shown restraint and engaged in dialogue, avoiding strike actions,” he said.

“But if the government continues to toy with the future of our universities, it must be ready to face the consequences of the storm that will follow.”

According to iReporter Online, ASUU maintains that the nationwide rally is a warning signal, emphasizing that the union will no longer tolerate delays or neglect in addressing the challenges confronting the country’s university system.
