The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has vowed to retire former governors Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia from active politics after the 2027 general elections.

According to iReporter Online, this declaration was made by Obinna Ekem, Director-General of the Ikwerre APC Campaign Organisation, during a rally held in Omagwa community on Sunday ahead of the August 30 local government elections.

Ekem expressed strong confidence that the APC would secure victory across all 13 wards in the LGA, citing overwhelming support from residents.

He emphasized that beyond the local polls, the Ikwerre APC is fully mobilized for the 2027 elections, assuring that President Bola Tinubu will record a landslide victory in the area, despite resistance from opposition figures like Amaechi and Omehia.

According to iReporter Online, Ekem argued that the APC’s past electoral struggles in the area were tied to Amaechi’s leadership, noting that now that the former governor has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the APC has a clearer path to success.

He stated that Amaechi and Omehia, both hailing from Ikwerre, no longer reflect the political will of the people in the region.

He also called on President Tinubu to focus his political attention on national rivals such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark, assuring that the APC in Ikwerre would decisively deal with local opposition figures.

According to iReporter Online, Tony Okocha, the APC Chairman in Rivers State recognized by the party’s national secretariat, also addressed the rally.

He urged Ikwerre voters not to allow any single political party to dominate the upcoming council election. Okocha added that the August 30 exercise would be more transparent and credible than the October 2024 polls conducted under suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which were nullified by the Supreme Court.
