The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that all federal airports under its management are fully insured. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, made this known on Wednesday while addressing concerns suggesting that some airports lacked insurance coverage.

Kuku explained that the insurance status of the airports is up-to-date, with verifiable records to support the claim. She further disclosed that key safety measures, including de-rubberisation and runway hygiene, have been carried out to ensure safer landings. She acknowledged, however, that challenges such as habitation and community activities have contributed to issues of wildlife intrusion and bird strikes, but assured that FAAN is working closely with relevant stakeholders to manage and mitigate the risks.

On the issue of aging infrastructure, the FAAN boss stated that runways with structural and engineering concerns, including those that have exceeded their lifespan, are currently undergoing phased rehabilitation, complete overhauls, and scheduled maintenance.
