“Dorobucci” Almost Never Happened – Tiwa Savage Reveals Stunning Truth About Mavin Hit
Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage has made a startling revelation about her initial reaction to Mavin Records’ chart-topping hit “Dorobucci,” admitting she once dismissed the song as unimpressive before realizing its massive potential.
According to Ireporter Online, the award-winning singer shared the confession during an interview with NotJustOk, where she recounted how producer Don Jazzy first played the rough version of “Dorobucci” while they were in Dubai for her wedding.
“Don’t know if people know this, but ‘Dorobucci,’ I had Don Jazzy playing that in the hotel when we were in Dubai for my wedding, and I didn’t want to tell him, but I thought it was such a crap song,” she revealed.
Savage explained that shortly after the wedding, Don Jazzy persuaded her to return to Nigeria sooner than planned to work on a new project, which turned out to be the same track she had dismissed. Upon hearing the final version, however, she said she was completely blown away by its transformation.
“I got back to Nigeria, and I got to the studio, and I heard the song that I heard him play in Dubai. I was flabbergasted,” she said, adding that she had a similar experience with her hit single “Eminado,” which she also doubted initially.
Tiwa further disclosed that she was the last Mavin artist to record her verse on “Dorobucci,” as she struggled to connect with the song’s vibe at first. “I was the last person to record my verse because I was just looking at everybody in the studio, like, do you guys really like this?” she admitted.
Despite her hesitation, “Dorobucci” went on to become one of Mavin Records’ biggest anthems, dominating airwaves across Africa and cementing the label’s dominance in the Afrobeats scene.
Reflecting on its success, Tiwa credited Don Jazzy’s genius and vision for the track’s eventual triumph. “We all know what happened to the record. I don’t know what Don Jazzy does, but yeah… it turned out to be phenomenal,” she said with admiration.
The singer concluded by expressing gratitude to her longtime producer, saying she had no idea the song she once dismissed would become one of the defining hits of her career.
