Panic In Oshodi As Truck Plunges Off Bridge, One Injured In Sh*cking Accident
There was heightened tension on Saturday after a six-tyre truck, reportedly carrying tonner printing materials, plunged off the Oshodi bridge into a terminal ditch along the Oshodi Old inward Mile 2 axis. According to Ireporter Online, the vehicle, identified with registration number AKD 135 UK, suffered a brake failure while descending the bridge, leading to a loss of control that caused it to tumble off the carriageway.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) promptly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued a man who was severely injured in the accident. Eyewitnesses noted that the situation could have resulted in multiple casualties if not for the swift response of the LASTMA operatives, who immediately launched rescue operations upon arrival.
The injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, while the truck driver was apprehended and handed over to officers from the Makinde Police Station in Oshodi for further investigation into the cause of the incident.
To avert further danger, LASTMA officers quickly secured the area, diverted traffic, and supervised the evacuation of the wrecked vehicle, restoring normal flow within a short time. Commending the operatives for their efficiency, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakare Oki, lauded their professionalism and commitment to safety standards during the rescue effort.
Oki reiterated the agency’s dedication to ensuring road safety and maintaining order, especially during the ember months when traffic accidents are more frequent. He further disclosed that heavy-duty recovery vehicles and mini-trucks have been strategically stationed across the five administrative divisions of Lagos, supported by over 2,700 personnel deployed to critical traffic points for round-the-clock emergency response.
He appealed to motorists to regularly maintain their vehicles and comply with traffic regulations, emphasizing that LASTMA remains committed to protecting lives and property on Lagos roads.
