Shettima Leads Powerhouse Delegation To IPI Nigeria’s High-Stake 2025 Media Summit

According to reports from reputable media monitors, Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to lead a distinguished lineup of national figures to the 2025 Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria. The high-profile attendance once again reflects the importance the global press body places on its yearly gathering.

The conference is scheduled for December 2 and 3 at the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja’s Central Business District, drawing participation from eminent personalities across government, academia, diplomacy, and the media industry. Among those expected are the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi; communication scholar and Baze University Registrar, Professor Abiodun Adeniyi; former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed; former presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu; and former State Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Lawal Kazaure.

Senior media figures such as IPI Global Executive Director Scott Griffen and former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, are also slated to attend. Presidents of leading media associations, including Maiden Alex-Ibru of NPAN, Eze Anaba of the NGE, Danlami Nmodu of GOCOP, and Alhassan Yahya Abdul of the NUJ, have likewise been invited.

Heads of agencies under the Ministry of Information and National Orientation will be present, including the Directors General of NOA, VON, FRCN, and NTA, alongside the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria. Several other respected professionals from the communication, security, and journalism sectors are on the attendees list.

Vice President Shettima will chair the event, while Minister Idris is expected to deliver a special address. IPI Global Director Scott Griffen will also deliver a goodwill message from the organisation’s headquarters in Vienna. Part of the programme includes the unveiling of IPI Nigeria’s Book of Infamy, led by Professor Adeniyi, with IPI Nigeria President Musikilu Mojeed coordinating a Surprise Honorary Event.

The conference will feature two major papers. The first, presented by Media Rights Agenda Executive Director Edetaen Ojo, will focus on media repression, press freedom, and democratic accountability. The session will be moderated by Funke Egbemode, supported by a panel of media and security experts. The second paper, delivered by media strategist Isiaq Ajibola, will examine innovation, credibility, and revenue sustainability in Nigeria’s media landscape. This session will feature prominent editors, broadcasters, and philanthropic sector leaders, with UNILAG Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika as moderator.

Activities on the final day are reserved strictly for IPI Nigeria members and will conclude with the induction of new members.
