“KWAM 1 Asked To Confirm Royal Lineage Amid Interest In Ijebuland Throne”

The Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu-Ode, next in line to produce the Awujale of Ijebuland in Ogun State, has instructed popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, known as KWAM 1, to formally declare his royal lineage to confirm his eligibility for the throne.

According to Ireporter Online, KWAM 1 submitted a letter on December 3, 2025, expressing his interest in the Awujale stool and identifying himself as a “bonafide son” of the ruling house. He affirmed that his candidacy aligns with Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.

The Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Abdulateef Owoyemi, a former National President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, stated that only bona fide family members are eligible to participate in the selection process. He explained that KWAM 1, along with other aspirants, has been directed to complete the ruling house’s royal lineage data form, which requires tracing ancestry back seven generations to prevent outsiders from claiming the throne.

Owoyemi outlined the process, saying, “The first step for anyone interested in contesting for the Awujale throne is to declare their lineage by filling the standard Fusengbuwa ruling house royal lineage data form. Once confirmed as a legitimate member of the ruling house, they can then apply for the expression of interest form.”

He added that although the official application period closed on December 5, KWAM 1 has been granted a five-day extension, which will expire on December 10. Owoyemi emphasized the importance of legitimacy, explaining that the ruling house will meticulously review all submissions and seek clarification if needed.

The chairman further provided a timeline for the selection of the next Awujale. Following the submission of eligible candidates, the kingmakers will deliberate for seven days before forwarding a nominee to the Ogun State Governor. The government will then conduct background checks and security clearance over 21 days before the State Executive Council ratifies the candidate, after which the coronation process will begin. The ruling house expects the new Awujale to be announced between the second and third week of January 2026.
