From Desert To Stability: Fubara’s Strategic Defection To APC Praised By Opobo Monarch

According to Ireporter Online, the Amaopusenibo of Opobo Kingdom, Eugene Minema, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of abandoning Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara during his political crisis. Speaking on Arise Television, Minema praised Fubara’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a necessary move aimed at ensuring stability in the state.

Minema claimed that Fubara was left to navigate his challenges alone, with neither the state nor national leadership of the PDP offering support. “Rivers State is a core PDP stronghold, yet Governor Fubara found himself isolated. Nobody came to his rescue. The entire party abandoned him,” he said.

The traditional ruler described the governor’s decision to join the APC as a strategic step to safeguard the state from prolonged instability. “He had to consider what was best for the people. Remaining in the PDP had become untenable. The party was like a house on fire, and despite his efforts, he could not contain it,” Minema explained.

Minema also acknowledged the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that it was instrumental in preserving Fubara’s political position. “The President acted decisively at a critical time. Without his intervention, the impeachment process might have succeeded. His timely action stabilized the situation,” he added.

Highlighting the benefits of aligning with the ruling party at the federal level, Minema said Rivers State would gain considerably from Fubara’s move. “Having the support of the centre is essential. Joining the APC is a clear acknowledgment of that support,” he stated.

Minema further pointed to Fubara’s governance record, noting the governor’s commitment to project inspections and commissioning activities across the state. “Good governance is visible. He is constantly on the move, inspecting and commissioning projects. That is the kind of leadership the people deserve,” he said.
