Breaking: Nollywood Star Angela Okorie Granted Bail
According to Ireporter Online, the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted Nollywood actress Angela Okorie bail in the sum of ₦5 million in an alleged criminal defamation and cyberstalking case.
Justice Emeka Nwite approved the bail after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defence during Okorie’s re-arraignment on a seven-count amended charge. Earlier in the week, the judge had remanded the actress in Suleja Prison, Niger State, following her arraignment.
The bail was issued after an oral application by Okorie’s lawyer, Alex Ejesieme (SAN), shortly after the actress pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge filed by the police. Justice Nwite directed that Okorie, a single mother, remain in custody until January 30, when a formal bail application would be considered.
Okorie, who resides in Lekki Palm City, Lagos, is being prosecuted on Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/278/2025. The police allege that she, alongside Ifeoma Mbonu (currently at large), conspired to commit cyberstalking and defamation by referring to fellow actress Mercy Johnson Okojie as a “blood sucking demon” on social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok. The offences are said to have occurred in 2024 and contravene the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015.
During proceedings, prosecuting lawyer Victor Okoye urged the court to remand Okorie in prison, citing previous failure to honor police invitations and alleged bail jumping. In response, Ejesieme argued that his client was not given adequate time to prepare her defence, noting that although the charge was filed in July 2025, a copy was only served on Okorie shortly before court proceedings, and she was transported from Lagos to Abuja without prior notice. The defence requested that Okorie be allowed to continue under administrative bail or be released to their custody to make arrangements for her child and formally apply for bail.
