Super Falcons Gear Up For Cameroon Friendlies Ahead Of WAFCON 2026

According to Ireporter Online, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to resume competitive action with two high-profile friendlies against Cameroon, providing a crucial boost after the cancellation of a planned four-nation preparatory tournament disrupted their build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed on Monday that the reigning African champions will face the Indomitable Lionesses in Yaounde during the FIFA Women’s International Window, scheduled from February 24 to March 7, 2026. The matches are slated for Saturday, February 28, and Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

The fixtures present an opportunity for the Super Falcons to regain momentum following several months of relative inactivity after their last competitive outing—a WAFCON qualifier against Benin in October. A proposed invitational tournament involving Benin, Senegal, and hosts Ivory Coast was called off due to logistical challenges, prompting the team to seek alternative preparations.

Attention now turns to Yaounde, where both sides will assess their readiness ahead of continental duty. The teams last clashed in a pre-WAFCON friendly in Abeokuta, where Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, setting the stage for a successful campaign that culminated in another continental crown.

NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi confirmed that arrangements with Cameroon’s federation, FECAFOOT, have been completed smoothly. “Our commitment is to ensure that the Super Falcons are well-prepared to retain their WAFCON title in Morocco and qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil,” he said.

FECAFOOT General Secretary Isaac Mandong expressed excitement at hosting the Nigerian side, highlighting the opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the two federations.

The 13th edition of WAFCON will take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026. The tournament carries added significance this year, as all four semi-finalists will earn automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Nigeria remain the most successful team in WAFCON history, boasting ten titles, including their latest triumph in Morocco last summer where they overcame Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, and the hosts to lift the trophy once again.
