Lagos Approves 13% Increase In BRT Fares – See All Prices

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has unveiled new transport fares following a 13% increase approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The adjustment affects all Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) services, including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and standard routes, and will take effect from March 2, 2026.

According to officials, the fare revision follows a formal appeal from transport operators who cited rising operational costs and economic pressures as factors undermining their ability to maintain efficient service delivery. “The review aligns with the previously approved annual fare review mechanism. The urgency is underscored by persistent inflationary trends, with Nigeria’s inflation rate closing 2025 at 15.2 per cent, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics,” stated Kolawole Ojelabi, LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communication.

The government reassured commuters of its commitment to balancing affordability with the need to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient public transport across the state. The newly-approved fares span both standard and BRT routes, with rates for major routes including Berger to Ajah at ₦1,710, Oshodi to Ajah at ₦1,320, and Abule-Egba to CMS/TBS at ₦1,080. Other key routes, such as Ikorodu to TBS and Ikorodu to Yaba/Oyingbo, have fares set at ₦960 and ₦910 respectively, reflecting the comprehensive adjustments across the transport network.

LAMATA has released the full list of revised fares, providing commuters with clear guidance on the cost of travel across the metropolis following the government’s approval.
