I Expected A Standing Ovation… But Got Booed’ – Tems
Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has opened up about a challenging experience early in her music career when she was booed during a school performance.
According to Ireporter Online, the R&B star recounted in an interview with Big Boy TV that she faced both rejection and harassment from the audience, including having plastic bottles thrown at her.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receive a standing ovation. But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” Tems said.
The singer explained that some of the initial setbacks she experienced may have stemmed from her commitment to originality, choosing to create her own sound rather than follow familiar trends or perform covers, unlike many of her peers. Despite the challenges, Tems said she remained determined to pursue a career in music.
In a separate development, Tems addressed circulating rumours about a possible collaboration with rapper Odumodublvck. A video showing the two artistes and Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, in a studio led fans to speculate that a joint track was in the works.
According to Awoniyi, however, the studio visit was informal and not related to any music collaboration. Tems was merely visiting and did not record with Odumodublvck.
