Beauty Of Democracy’ — Fubara Pledges Collaboration With APC Lawmakers

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed his readiness to foster a cordial working relationship with ranking lawmakers and newly elected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

According to Ireporter Online, the governor made the declaration in the aftermath of the February 21 by-elections into the state legislature, which produced victories for APC candidates in key constituencies. Ukalikpe Napoleon secured the Ahoada East State Constituency II seat, while Loolo Bulabari Henrietta emerged triumphant in Khana State Constituency II.

Governor Fubara described the electoral victories as well-earned, emphasizing that the outcome reflected the confidence and trust bestowed upon the candidates by their constituents. He noted that democracy thrives when the electorate exercises its mandate freely, stressing that public belief in leadership capacity ultimately determines electoral success.

Extending an olive branch, the governor reaffirmed his willingness to collaborate with the newly elected lawmakers and other members of the Assembly to advance policies and programmes aimed at driving sustainable development across the state. He reiterated his commitment to prioritizing unity and progress in the collective interest of Rivers people.

Fubara also applauded residents of Ahoada East and Khana constituencies for maintaining peace before, during, and after the polls, describing their conduct as a testament to democratic maturity and civic responsibility.

His conciliatory remarks come against the backdrop of recent political developments in the state. On February 19, the Rivers State House of Assembly suspended impeachment proceedings previously initiated against the governor after months of heightened political tension. The crisis had drawn sharp divisions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The prolonged standoff reportedly resulted in a six-month emergency rule in the state before gradual stability was restored.
