Pentagon Rejects Claims US K!lled Iran Leader
The United States government has formally denied any involvement in the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following a deadly strike over the weekend. According to Ireporter Online, a senior Pentagon official, Elbridge Colby, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the operation that resulted in Khamenei’s death was carried out exclusively by Israel and was not linked to any American military mission.
Colby emphasized that the United States has not sought regime change in Iran, noting that its focus remains on Iran’s expanding missile program, weapons production capabilities, and elements of its naval forces. He described these as clear and achievable military targets. “Those are Israeli operations. Our targets are Iran’s missile capabilities, their growing ability to build those weapons, and parts of their navy. These are doable and reasonable targets that can be achieved,” Colby explained.
His statements appeared to contrast with earlier remarks by former President Donald Trump, who suggested that Khamenei could not evade American intelligence and tracking efforts. Trump had also referenced close coordination between the United States and Israel, highlighting pressure on Iran’s leadership from combined efforts.
Despite these earlier assertions, Colby reiterated that the strike that killed Khamenei and several senior Iranian figures was solely Israel’s responsibility. The attacks reportedly claimed the lives of Khamenei’s daughter, grandchild, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law. The Israeli military also confirmed the death of Ali Shamkhani, a close adviser to Khamenei, and General Mohammad Pakpour, commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
U.S. officials further disclosed that over 49 high-ranking members of Iran’s military have been eliminated since the operations began, underscoring the scale of the recent Israeli-led campaign.
