The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly removed Assistant Commissioner of Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, from his position as the Force Public Relations Officer and replaced him with Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Okon Placid.

According to Ireporter Online, although the police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the development, reliable sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja confirmed that Placid has been appointed to assume the role of Force spokesperson. The position is traditionally held by an officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Hundeyin, who previously served as spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command before his elevation to the national position, took over as Force Public Relations Officer in September 2025.

Sources further disclosed that the police leadership has established a new department known as the New Media Office as part of efforts to strengthen its communication structure. Chief Superintendent of Police Ali Giwa has reportedly been appointed to head the newly created unit.

The development comes shortly after Hundeyin publicly stated that the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, would not succumb to emotional pressure or blackmail while carrying out his duties.

In a message shared on his account, Hundeyin emphasised that the Inspector General would remain professional and would not be influenced into taking unnecessary actions. He noted that matters currently before the court would be allowed to follow due process.

He also stressed that the leadership of the police would maintain strict professionalism and accountability, adding that any officer found culpable of wrongdoing would face appropriate disciplinary action, insisting that no member of the force is above the law.
