Bola Ahmed Tinubu Lands In Lagos For Easter, Set For Ogun & Bayelsa Visits

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Lagos to mark the Easter holiday, ahead of planned official visits to Ogun State and Bayelsa State. According to Ireporter Online, the presidential aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Thursday. The Presidency had earlier disclosed that the visit to Ogun State will feature the commissioning of major infrastructure projects, including a Cargo Airport situated in Iperu.

Prior to his arrival in Lagos, the President paid a brief visit to Plateau State following the recent wave of violence in Jos. During the visit, he assured residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling insecurity, announcing plans to deploy an artificial intelligence-powered surveillance system comprising over 5,000 digital cameras to support law enforcement efforts.

The President expressed condolences to victims of the March 29 attacks in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area, which resulted in multiple fatalities. He pledged that such incidents would not reoccur, directing top security officials, including Christopher Musa, Waidi Shaibu, and Olatunji Disu, to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.

According to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the installation of the surveillance infrastructure will commence in Jos before expanding across Plateau State, building on similar systems already implemented in Lagos and Enugu State. The initiative will be overseen by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijjani, in collaboration with state authorities and security agencies.

While addressing grieving families at the arrival lounge of Yakubu Gowon Airport, President Tinubu lamented the tragic loss of lives, noting that no compensation can replace the deceased. He assured affected families of the government’s commitment to justice and support, directing the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Bernard Doro, to compile accurate data of victims to ensure equitable distribution of relief.

Speaking further with stakeholders, the President stressed the importance of learning from past incidents and prioritising preventive measures. He reiterated that the mandate of his administration is to ensure peace, security, and prosperity, particularly for the youth, expressing a strong desire to foster stability rather than repeatedly offer condolences in the aftermath of violence.
