Ex-Senator Marafa Dumps ADC, Joins NDC Just 3 Weeks After Defection

According to Ireporter Online, former senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabiru Marafa, has officially left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking his second party switch within a short period.

Marafa, who served in the Senate between 2011 and 2019, was formally received in Abuja on Tuesday by top NDC leaders, including former Bayelsa State Governor and party leader Seriake Dickson, party chairman Moses Cleopas, and national women leader Dudu Manuga. He arrived with a large number of his supporters.

His latest political move comes just weeks after he joined the ADC on April 8, 2026, following his exit from the All Progressives Congress in August 2025, highlighting a rapid sequence of defections.

Explaining his decision, Marafa cited concerns over ongoing legal disputes involving the ADC, as well as the limited time remaining before key electoral deadlines. He stated that the uncertainty surrounding court cases within the party made it difficult to engage in proper election planning.

He further noted that aspirants require a stable and well-structured political platform ahead of party registration deadlines, warning that prolonged legal battles could leave him and his supporters without adequate preparation for the upcoming elections. According to him, the decision was reached after careful consultations and legal advice, which strongly influenced the move to the NDC.

Marafa also expressed readiness to support any decision the NDC takes regarding its presidential candidate when the time comes.

Welcoming him into the party, Seriake Dickson described Marafa’s defection as a major boost for the NDC, particularly in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, adding that his experience would strengthen the party’s influence and help address pressing issues such as insecurity.

Also speaking, NDC chairman Moses Cleopas said the party remains committed to inclusiveness, noting that it aims to provide greater opportunities for young people, women, and persons with disabilities as political activities intensify ahead of the next election cycle.
