2027: Borno Governor Zulum Announces His Chosen Successor

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has reportedly endorsed his former Commissioner for Works, Mustapha Gubio, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

According to Ireporter Online, the development was confirmed by the governor’s spokesman, Malam Dauda Iliya, who disclosed that Gubio recently visited Governor Zulum shortly after purchasing his nomination form in Abuja.

He was quoted as saying, “Yes, Gubio is the anointed candidate of His Excellency who visited him shortly after the purchase of nomination form in Abuja.”

The endorsement reportedly gained further attention following the circulation of a photograph showing Gubio presenting his expression of interest and nomination forms to the governor. The meeting was said to have been attended by Senate Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, alongside other political supporters.

In a related development, political activities are also intensifying in Oyo State as Governor Seyi Makinde prepares to disclose his preferred governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections. Makinde is expected to announce his choice before the end of the first week of May.

He noted that consultations are ongoing with key stakeholders, including elders, religious leaders, and other influential figures, adding that while several aspirants have emerged, no final decision has been reached.
