Alli and Tinubu 2 1

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has endorsed Sharafadeen Alli as its consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 election, according to reports by Ireporter Online. The decision was finalized during a high-level leadership summit held in Samonda, Ibadan, as part of broader efforts to foster unity and strengthen internal cohesion within the party.

The move is said to mirror similar consensus strategies recently adopted in other states, including Lagos and Ogun, as the APC seeks to minimize internal disputes and improve its electoral prospects in the forthcoming general elections. Party stakeholders emphasized that adopting a unified approach would enhance the party’s competitiveness and prevent divisive primary contests.

Speaking at the gathering, Ayo Adeseun revealed that the endorsement followed extensive consultations among party leaders, including engagements with Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that the President’s position as the party’s national leader makes his input significant in determining its flagbearer.

Adeseun further disclosed that Alli had already indicated interest in the race prior to the consensus arrangement. Similarly, party chieftain Fatai Ibikunle confirmed that Tinubu expressed support for Alli’s candidacy, urging other aspirants to align with the decision in the spirit of party unity.

Ibikunle stressed that maintaining cohesion within the party would be crucial in mounting a formidable challenge in the governorship election. The summit drew participation from key leaders and stakeholders across all 33 local government areas of Oyo State, reflecting the weight and significance attached to the endorsement.

In his response, Alli expressed gratitude to party leaders for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to deliver inclusive governance if elected. He also acknowledged the role of President Tinubu in guiding the process and assured party members of his commitment not to disappoint.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Adebayo Adelabu, a former Minister of Power, recently stepped down from his position to pursue the APC governorship ticket, setting the stage for political developments within the party.
