North Must Unite, Not Engage In “Political Romance” – APC Chieftain Warns On Kwankwaso-Obi Alliance

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Faizu Alfindiki, has expressed surprise over what he described as the growing political proximity between former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to Ireporter Online, Alfindiki made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Kano on Monday, where he said some political actors in Northern Nigeria were questioning Kwankwaso’s current political direction. He argued that many expected the former governor to prioritise strengthening unity among Northern leaders rather than exploring alliances outside the region.

He stated that the North required greater cohesion among its political stakeholders to safeguard its collective interests and strengthen its influence at the national level. “Many Northerners were surprised that Kwankwaso appears more interested in aligning with Obi’s political camp instead of building stronger unity among Northern leaders,” he said, adding that regional progress should be placed above individual political calculations.

Alfindiki also criticised Obi, noting that the former Anambra State governor had not been vocal enough on key challenges affecting Northern Nigeria, including insecurity, agriculture, and economic development. He stressed that meaningful political alliances should be driven by shared priorities and a clear commitment to national development rather than electoral advantage.

He further cautioned that political decisions by Kwankwaso could be interpreted as prioritising personal ambition over regional solidarity, urging Northern politicians to close ranks in addressing pressing issues such as insecurity, youth unemployment, and agricultural development. Despite his criticism, he called for broader national cooperation that would strengthen unity and democratic governance across the country.

The APC chieftain also commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that ongoing reforms and infrastructure projects reflected efforts to reposition the country for economic growth and stability.
