According to Ireporter Online, Lagos is set to host the maiden edition of the Lagos Entertainment Association Games & Awards (LEAGA) in September 2026, an initiative designed to foster unity, wellness, and collaboration within Nigeria’s entertainment and creative industries through sports and recreational engagement. The event, which has been endorsed by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sports Commission, is envisioned as an annual platform that brings together stakeholders across music, film, comedy, broadcasting, and other creative sectors in a relaxed and competitive environment beyond the demands of show business.

The competition will feature both male and female categories across a wide range of activities including football, basketball, athletics, table tennis, tennis, relay races, draughts, ayo olopon, dance, and fitness challenges, with participation expected from entertainers, media personalities, DJs, and industry professionals. Speaking on the initiative, the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, commended the organisers, noting that the project aligns with Lagos State’s broader vision of using sports and recreation as tools for youth engagement and social development.

He further emphasized that the initiative supports the government’s commitment to strengthening social cohesion through sport. The Lead Convener of LEAGA, Muyiwa Osinaike, explained that the programme was created to deepen bonding and encourage healthy interaction among creatives, government agencies, and stakeholders within the arts, culture, and creative economy. He added that the broader vision is to promote “sportainment” in Lagos and extend its impact across Nigeria, Africa, and the global stage.

The inaugural edition will also be dedicated to celebrated cultural icons, including Chief Segun Odegbami, Professor Lazarus Ekwueme, Wole Soyinka, Pa Bruce Onabrakpeya, and Mrs Taiwo Ajai-Lycett. The event is expected to climax with a grand awards and gala night celebrating outstanding contributions to the entertainment and creative industries.
