Nigeria To Establish Real-Time Transport Databank As FEC Approves NITT’s SNTDB Project

According to Ireporter Online, the initiative is designed as a comprehensive digital intelligence platform that will integrate, analyse, store, and distribute transport data nationwide to improve planning and decision-making in the sector.

The project is expected to strengthen evidence-based policymaking, enhance infrastructure development, improve road safety and security operations, and promote more efficient mobility management across Nigeria.

Under a Public–Private Partnership arrangement, the project will be implemented using the Design–Build–Finance–Operate–Transfer model, with Asia-Arab Investment Nigeria Limited serving as the private sector partner.

Authorities noted that the SNTDB will support real-time traffic monitoring, automated enforcement systems, and broader efforts to modernize transport operations in the country.

The initiative is also projected to generate employment opportunities, boost economic activities, enhance coordination among relevant agencies, reduce revenue leakages, and accelerate digital transformation within the transport ecosystem.

Key components of the project include the installation of 250 solar-powered smart gantries nationwide, the establishment of traffic management centres in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the development of a centralized national data centre, and the deployment of RFID-enabled smart e-tag technology for vehicles.

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology attributed the successful approval to the leadership of its Director-General, Dr. Bayero Farah, citing his coordination, stakeholder engagement, and technical oversight in advancing the project through regulatory and financial processes.

The institute added that the approval places Nigeria among nations leveraging intelligent transport systems and advanced digital infrastructure to drive national development.

It further expressed appreciation to the Presidency, the Federal Executive Council, the Federal Ministry of Transportation, regulatory bodies, and development partners for their support, while urging state governments, transport operators, and the private sector to collaborate in ensuring successful implementation of the project.
