Ekiti Poll: Massive Turnout As Voters Storm Oyebanji’s Polling Unit
Residents of Ikogosi in Ekiti West Local Government Area came out early on Saturday at the polling unit of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as voting began in the Ekiti State governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, at Ward 6, Polling Unit 003, situated opposite the governor’s family compound in Okelele, eligible voters were observed verifying their names on the electoral register in preparation to cast their ballots.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission arrived at the polling centre ahead of the exercise, where they sensitised voters on the voting process before accreditation and voting commenced around 8:30 a.m. The officials also assured residents that all necessary electoral materials had been deployed to ensure a smooth and credible process.
One of the voters, identified simply as Aduke, confirmed that her details were found on the register and expressed readiness to participate in the election, noting that she had fulfilled her civic responsibility and hoped for a large turnout from other residents.
In another development, residents of Oke Oriomi in Ado-Ekiti also began trooping out as early as 7:00 a.m. to check their names on the voters’ register ahead of accreditation and voting.
Reports from several polling units indicated that voters travelled varying distances to participate in the exercise, while security operatives were strategically deployed across polling centres to maintain order and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
