EFCC Operatives Pay Visit To Oyebanji’s Polling Unit Amid Voting Activity
Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday arrived at a polling unit in Ikogosi, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s ward, amid heightened concerns over alleged vote-buying during the ongoing governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, about 10 EFCC operatives were sighted at Polling Unit 003, Ward 06, Ikogosi, in Ekiti West Local Government Area, at approximately 9:05 am, shortly after voting commenced around 8:30 am.
The anti-graft agency officials were reportedly seen monitoring electoral activities within and around the polling centre, engaging with security personnel while observing the conduct of voters and election officials.
Although the operatives did not publicly state the purpose of their deployment, their presence came amid growing scrutiny of the electoral process and repeated allegations of voter inducement in parts of the state.
The polling unit, which has a total of 668 registered voters, remained calm as voting continued under close supervision from security operatives.
As of the time of filing this report, EFCC personnel were still stationed at the location, with no confirmed incident of arrest or disruption recorded.
The development follows earlier warnings from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organisations, and anti-corruption agencies against electoral malpractice, particularly vote-buying, during the exercise.
The Ekiti governorship election is currently ongoing across all 16 local government areas of the state, with Governor Oyebanji seeking re-election against candidates from opposition parties.
