Sh*ck As Ex-Miss Universe Nigeria Battles Deportation In South Africa

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, the 25-year-old beauty queen appeared before the Cape Town Regional Court on June 9 after her arrest in the Summer Greens area. She was subsequently released on warning and is expected to return to court next month as South African authorities continue legal efforts aimed at removing her from the country.

Adetshina’s immigration status has remained a subject of public attention since her participation in the 2024 Miss South Africa pageant ignited widespread debate regarding her nationality. She later withdrew from the competition, citing concerns about the safety of herself and her family. She subsequently accepted an invitation from the Silverbird Group to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where she emerged as the winner.

Court documents reportedly filed by immigration officer Adrian Jackson alleged that investigations revealed Adetshina and her minor son were living in South Africa without lawful residential status. The officer maintained that she did not possess any valid South African residence permit and had allegedly remained in the country in violation of the country’s immigration laws.

The latest proceedings also follow an earlier decision by South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber, who reportedly rejected Adetshina’s request to review the department’s refusal to issue her a letter of good cause. Authorities further alleged that she had been notified in September 2024 of plans to cancel both her and her son’s South African identity documents but failed to respond to the notice.

The minister also claimed that Adetshina later obtained a Nigerian passport, applied for a South African visitor’s visa, and was subsequently declared a prohibited person on December 19, 2024.

As part of the court’s conditions pending the next hearing, Adetshina was directed to remain at the address where she was arrested and notify immigration investigators of any changes to her residence, employment, or travel arrangements while the case continues.
