NYSC Releases Full List Of 11 Specialized Streams For Corps Members

According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a series of far-reaching reforms aimed at restructuring and modernising the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to enhance its efficiency, relevance, and impact on national development.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed the development after Monday’s FEC meeting, noting that while the one-year duration of the scheme remains unchanged, the council approved seven major reforms. These include the digitalisation of the NYSC system, a transition from military to civilian leadership structure, and the introduction of a redesigned corps uniform.

Further details were provided by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, who explained that the NYSC orientation programme will now be divided into three structured phases aimed at better preparing corps members for national service and future careers.

She stated that the first two weeks will focus on civic responsibility, national values, leadership training, and nation-building. The second phase will emphasise career mapping, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, business planning, and access to finance. The final phase will involve specialised training aligned with corps members’ chosen career paths.

Under the new framework, each corps member will be required to select one of 11 newly introduced specialised streams during registration. These include Agric Corps, Medical Corps, Education Corps, Tech and Digital Corps, Legal Corps, Public Service Corps, Infrastructure Corps, Green Corps, Enterprise Corps, Creative Economy Corps, and Paramilitary and Security Corps.

Usman explained that the initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and labour market demands, ensuring that graduates are equipped with practical, career-focused skills tailored to Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape and individual professional interests.
