2027: APC Set To Upload Tinubu, Running Mate This Week

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence that it will meet the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) July 11 deadline for the submission of its presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections.

According to party insiders familiar with the process, the APC has made significant progress in uploading the details of its candidates to the INEC nomination portal, with the information of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate expected to be submitted before the middle of the week.

A senior official within the party’s National Working Committee, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that the upload of National Assembly candidates was nearing completion and assured that all required nominations would be submitted within the electoral commission’s stipulated timeframe.

Findings also indicate that the APC’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) team has continued to work seamlessly with the INEC portal from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. Sources within the department revealed that the details of several key members of the 10th National Assembly, including principal officers and serving lawmakers, have already been successfully uploaded.

The sources further disclosed that the nomination details of four serving governors—AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State—have also been transmitted to the electoral commission as part of the party’s Senate candidates.

The ongoing submission exercise follows a review of the APC’s primary elections, which led to adjustments in its list of candidates. The National Working Committee recently forwarded a revised list to INEC after removing six senatorial candidates and 19 House of Representatives candidates who had initially emerged from the party’s May primaries.

The changes affected constituencies across Abia, Kogi, Taraba, Benue, Ebonyi, Ondo, Kaduna, Niger and Kwara states and were made based on recommendations submitted by the party’s Primary Election Appeal Committee.

The updated nomination list was formally transmitted to INEC in a letter jointly endorsed by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru.

Meanwhile, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed that the party received more than 700 petitions from dissatisfied members following the conclusion of its primary elections. He explained that the party’s immediate priority remains ensuring that all nominated candidates complete and submit their Form EC9 documents for upload before the INEC deadline, rather than announcing the final list publicly.

Despite the revisions made after the appeal process, the final submission retained many of the APC’s prominent political figures, including four incumbent governors who secured the party’s tickets to contest for Senate seats in the 2027 general elections.
