Uba Sani Approves ₦2.8bn Contract For Gambo Sawaba General Hospital Upgrade

According to Ireporter Online, the Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani has approved a contract valued at over ₦2.8 billion for the remodeling, upgrading, and equipping of the Gambo Sawaba General Hospital in Zaria, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Ibraheem Musa, confirmed that construction work on the project began about two weeks ago, noting that the initiative represents a significant step in the administration’s drive to expand access to quality and affordable healthcare services for residents of Kaduna State.

Musa explained that the Gambo Sawaba project forms part of a broader programme aimed at upgrading and fully equipping 16 general hospitals across the state’s 23 local government areas. He added that the administration has already completed and commissioned a 300-bed specialist hospital in Millennium City, alongside the upgrade of 255 primary healthcare centres to Level 2 status.

He further disclosed that six general hospitals have been fully completed, including facilities in Sabon Tasha, Saminaka, Kachia, Kawo, Makarfi, and Limi General Hospital in Sabon Gari Local Government Area.

According to him, ongoing renovation works are currently being carried out in several other hospitals, including those in Gwantu, Rigasa, Maigana, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa General Hospital in Kafanchan, Giwa, Ikara, Yusuf Dantsoho General Hospital, Kaura, and Birnin Gwari.

Musa also confirmed that contractors have been fully mobilised to the Gambo Sawaba General Hospital site, where work is actively progressing following the official award of the contract.

He noted that the project reflects Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to modernising healthcare infrastructure, improving service delivery, and ensuring residents have access to well-equipped medical facilities across Kaduna State. He added that the combined investments in both primary and secondary healthcare facilities are expected to strengthen the state’s health system, reduce pressure on tertiary hospitals, and improve overall health outcomes.
