Makinde Breaks Silence After Rescue Of Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers

According to Ireporter Online, the governor described the development as a major relief and commended the efforts of the Federal Government and security agencies involved in securing the release of the victims.

Speaking during a telephone interview with Channels Television on Friday evening, Makinde appreciated President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the military for their commitment and coordination throughout the rescue operation.

The governor said he was overwhelmed with happiness over the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers, adding that he would provide more details after gathering his thoughts.

“We will use this opportunity to thank our service commanders, the Nigerian police, DSS, the military, and of course, the president for pushing really hard to have this done,” Makinde stated.

“I am right now overjoyed. I will talk later when I can put my thoughts together,” he added.

The rescue comes after the victims spent more than 50 days in captivity following their abduction in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Earlier, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga announced that the pupils and teachers had been freed by their abductors through the efforts of security forces.

Onanuga revealed in a statement shared on his X account that the victims were rescued safely and that one of the teachers expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the security agencies for their intervention.

The development has brought relief to families, residents, and authorities who had been awaiting the safe return of the victims.
