Osun Election: Alleged Policemen ‘Cart Away’ Election Materials

Persons suspected to be police operatives have allegedly disrupted voting in Modakeke Ward 10, Osun State, after reportedly seizing election materials and dispersing voters and electoral officials.

According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred on Saturday after voting activities had reportedly commenced peacefully at the affected location. An eyewitness alleged that the suspected policemen arrived at the area, took away election materials and allegedly fired tear gas, forcing voters, election officials and party agents to flee.

The witness claimed that the sudden intervention created panic among those gathered at the polling area, with several National Youth Service Corps members and party agents reportedly running for safety.

“All the election agents and corps members took to their heels as soon as they arrived,” the witness was quoted as saying.

The allegation could not be independently verified at the time of reporting.

In a separate development, voting at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, was reportedly disrupted after suspected thugs invaded the area.

The incident allegedly forced some voters to leave the polling unit as tension mounted during the ongoing governorship election.

The development occurred as voters across Osun State turned out to elect their next governor, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party facing All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji and other contenders.

Some party agents at the affected polling unit reportedly alleged that the suspected thugs were affiliated with the APC, although the claim had not been independently confirmed.
