Former Ondo PDP Candidate Jegede Quits Party, Eyes ADC

Former Ondo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, has resigned his membership of the opposition party, ending his latest chapter with the PDP amid growing political realignments ahead of future elections.

Jegede communicated his decision in a resignation letter dated August 7, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 11, Owode/Imagun Ward, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, Fabiyi Kole Adewale.

In the letter, Jegede formally notified the party leadership of his decision to quit the PDP with immediate effect.

According to Ireporter Online, Jegede is a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State under the administration of former Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

He served as the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2016 and 2020 Ondo State governorship elections, where he contested against the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jegede was unsuccessful in both contests, with Akeredolu emerging victorious on each occasion.

Confirming his resignation, Jegede said he had decided to leave the PDP but indicated that he would disclose his next political move at the appropriate time.

“Yes, I can confirm my resignation from the PDP. I will also let you know my next political move,” he said.

Meanwhile, sources familiar with the development disclosed that Jegede is expected to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the coming days.

The move is reportedly linked to plans for the 2028 Ondo State governorship election, with Jegede said to be considering a fresh bid for the state’s top political position.

His resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments and consultations among opposition figures as parties position themselves for upcoming electoral contests.
