Drama As Tribunal Rejects Adeleke’s Blurry Certificates

The Osun State Election Petition Tribunal, which is hearing former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s petition challenging Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory, has rejected blurry school certificates presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At the last sitting, the panel’s chairman, Justice Tertse Kume, compelled INEC headquarters to present Adeleke’s certificates after the Osun branch of INEC refused to do so.

When the hearing resumed on Thursday, counsel for INEC, Prof Paul Ananaba, informed the Tribunal that the commission’s chair had sent deputy director, Mrs. Joan Arabs, with Certified True Copies of the documents.

The 8-page documents were presented to the court as Ananaba requested that the bearer of the document be allowed to leave the court immediately because she had a flight to catch to Abuja.

Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the lead counsel for Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress (APC), informed the court that N305,000 was paid for the documents.

He expressed concern that two pages of documents presented in court by INEC are illegible and blurry.

He said: “WAEC GCE Certificate of Education content is not legible except for signature and Testimonial obtained from Ede Muslim Grammar School is not clear.”

Ananaba stated that he is unable to comment on the legibility of the documents submitted by the commission to the meeting.

Fagbemi noted that the candidate’s scores on the certificate were unclear, saying, “We are concerned and frustrated that INEC did not bring clean copies of the documents.” The scores are not on the brought Certificate, and we will not manage the documents brought by INEC that are not legible.

“Also in the testimonial, the address of the school attended was missing. So, the legible certificates must be produced.”

Following the arguments, Justice Kume adjourned the case until Saturday, December 3, 2022, in order for the INEC to present clearer documents before the court.
