- American-Israeli Keith Siegel was released in a similar ceremony at Gaza City’s port.
- The Israeli military confirmed that all three hostages had returned to Israel.
Meanwhile, Palestinian prisoners released by Israel were welcomed by crowds in Ramallah and Khan Younis, with many being lifted onto the shoulders of supporters. An elderly man among them raised his crutches in triumph.
Ceasefire Deal and Future Swaps
- Hamas and its ally Islamic Jihad have now handed over 18 hostages as part of the ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the US.
- The next hostage-prisoner exchange is set for February 8.
- Under the 42-day first phase of the truce, a total of 33 hostages are to be released in exchange for around 1,900 Palestinian detainees.
- Negotiations for a second phase—expected to discuss the release of remaining captives and a potential permanent ceasefire—will begin Monday.
Rafah Border Reopens for Medical Evacuations
Following Saturday’s swap, Gaza’s Rafah border crossing with Egypt was reopened. The Hamas-run health ministry reported that 50 Palestinian patients in need of specialized medical care were evacuated, including 30 children with cancer.
As the ceasefire continues, global mediators remain engaged in efforts to de-escalate tensions and bring a long-term resolution to the conflict.
