2027 Bid: Atiku Appoints Kenneth Okonkwo To Key Spokesperson Role
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed veteran Nollywood actor, lawyer, and politician Kenneth Okonkwo as the spokesperson for his presidential campaign.
According to Ireporter Online, Okonkwo confirmed his appointment in a post shared on his account in the early hours of Thursday, July 2, expressing appreciation to Atiku for the confidence reposed in him.
The appointment comes months after Okonkwo publicly distanced himself from supporting the former Vice President following the emergence of Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate, citing concerns over the perceived marginalisation of the South-East.
However, Okonkwo disclosed that those concerns have now been addressed following a series of discussions with Atiku and other key figures within the ADC. He stated that the interests of the South-East had been thoroughly considered and assured within the constraints of the Electoral Act, 2026, and prevailing political realities.
He described his appointment as evidence of Atiku’s commitment to dialogue, compromise, and inclusive leadership, noting that the former Vice President chose constructive engagement instead of taking offence at his earlier criticisms.
Okonkwo also acknowledged the contributions of several individuals, including Dr. Kashim Imam, whom he credited for his intervention and counsel in fostering unity across political and regional divides. He further commended former ADC National Chairman Ralphs Nwosu for his sacrifices in strengthening the party and praised Dr. Ekene Onwuka, Senior Special Assistant to Atiku on Special Duties, for his efforts in assembling a formidable campaign team ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Expressing gratitude to his family, supporters, and friends, Okonkwo said their prayers and encouragement played a significant role in his journey. He appealed for continued support and prayers as he assumes the responsibility of leading communications for Atiku’s campaign, expressing optimism that the assignment would contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
