According to Ireporter Online, controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has raised concerns over the direction of music being produced by some of the country’s top artistes.

Portable alleged that growing wealth and fame have influenced the creative choices of major musicians, claiming it has shifted the focus of their songs away from meaningful messages.

The singer specifically mentioned Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Olamide, stating that their recent music projects are largely centred on themes such as women, luxury, and extravagant lifestyles rather than the everyday struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

He argued that such content no longer inspires listeners or delivers moral lessons that could positively impact society, adding that many of the artistes appear disconnected from the realities faced by the average citizen.

Portable further urged musicians to return to more conscious songwriting, encouraging the production of songs with positive messages, including gospel-inspired content that promotes spiritual reflection and gratitude to God.

He was quoted as saying that many contemporary songs lack motivation and meaningful lyrics, insisting that artistes should “do better” and embrace more socially responsible themes in their music.
