Breaking: Gov. Makinde Fires Commissioner In Oyo State

The development was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju.

The statement further disclosed that the Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperative, Alhaja Fausat Sanni, has been immediately redeployed to take over the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion.

Governor Makinde expressed appreciation to Mrs Balogun for her service and contributions to the development of the state, while wishing her success in her future endeavours.

Alhaja Sanni, who previously served as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion between 2019 and 2023, as well as Commissioner for Special Duties, returns to the ministry following her recent redeployment to the Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperative portfolio.

In a related development, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its industrial action across public primary and secondary schools in Oyo State, directing members to resume work on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Naija News reports that the decision followed renewed dialogue with the state government and assurances of improved security measures after the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area.

In a joint statement signed by the Oyo State Chairman of the union, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and State Secretary, Comrade Olukayode Salami, the union said the suspension was approved by its national leadership after reviewing the security situation and appeals from government and other stakeholders.

The union explained that the strike, which was embarked upon following the kidnapping incident, was suspended in the interest of teachers, students, and the wider public.

It further noted that the state government had pledged sustained efforts toward securing the release of abducted victims and strengthening security in schools and vulnerable communities across the state.
