Kwankwaso Rules Out Defection, Reaffirms Loyalty to NNPP Ahead of 2027

National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed growing speculation that he may defect to another political party, insisting he remains fully committed to the NNPP.

According to iReporter Online, Kwankwaso made this clarification during the party’s 9th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

While reiterating his loyalty, the former Kano State governor emphasized that the NNPP remains open to strategic alliances and negotiations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He noted that although various political actors have approached the party for possible collaboration, the NNPP stands strong as a respected and inclusive platform with national appeal.

Kwankwaso stated, “This party is not mine, nor is it just for the leadership seated here; it belongs to Nigerians. We’re open to discussions with anyone who wants to work with us. But let me be clear—this leadership will never fail you. For now, we are in the NNPP, and we’re marching confidently towards 2027.”

According to iReporter Online, Kwankwaso also addressed reports of alliances with other political parties and individuals, clarifying that any such move would be a collective decision. He credited the loyalty of the party’s grassroots base and the Kwankwasiyya movement as a source of strength and motivation.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Oladipo Johnson, earlier made it clear that the NNPP is not in alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the All Progressives Congress (APC), or President Bola Tinubu. He added that both Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State remain loyal to the party.

Reflecting on his political journey, Kwankwaso recalled his early days in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and underscored the importance of party supremacy, saying, “We built loyalty then, and we’re building it again now.”

Meanwhile, the NNPP’s National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, praised Kwankwaso’s leadership and confirmed that the former governor would once again fly the party’s presidential flag in 2027.

According to iReporter Online, this decision was met with widespread approval from NEC members and is seen as a reaffirmation of the party’s stability and unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
