23 Aspirants Abandon ADC In Anambra Over Internal Crisis
According to Ireporter Online, no fewer than 23 aspirants have withdrawn from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, following an ongoing leadership crisis within the party that has continued to unsettle its internal structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development has reportedly thrown both federal and state-level aspirants under the ADC platform into uncertainty, with many expressing doubts about their political future in the party. A member of the party’s publicity team, Ike Uzor, confirmed the situation in a telephone interview in Awka, noting that a significant number of those who defected were loyalists of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
Uzor explained that several registered members and aspirants have shown strong interest in leaving the ADC to align with Obi in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), while others have already moved to the Social Democratic Party. He attributed the wave of defections to the prolonged leadership crisis in the party, which he said has eroded confidence among members, particularly those seeking elective positions.
He further stated that, “As of the last count, no fewer than 23 aspirants for National and State Assembly positions are in advanced stages of joining either the NDC or the Social Democratic Party,” adding that more resignations are expected as the crisis persists.
Reacting to the situation, the lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Victor Ogene, dismissed claims that the crisis was directed at the party itself, insisting instead that the real target was Peter Obi. He maintained that the unfolding developments were politically motivated and centred around the former presidential candidate rather than the ADC as an institution.
