ADC Faces Fresh Crisis As Kwankwasiyya Members Begin Strategic Exit
Members of the Kwankwasiyya movement loyal to former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have commenced a gradual exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following recent political realignments that saw Kwankwaso and other key figures move to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Ireporter Online, the development comes after Kwankwaso’s defection from the ADC to the NDC on Sunday, alongside former Anambra State Governor and ex-presidential candidate, Peter Obi, triggering a ripple effect within the political structure of the movement.
Speaking to The Punch, a spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya movement, Mansur Kurugu, disclosed that while a final decision has yet to be reached regarding members who won positions under the ADC platform, several prominent figures in Kano have already aligned with the NDC. He confirmed that both he and the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, have officially left the ADC.
Kurugu further noted that the ADC constitution stipulates that elected officeholders under the party are expected to assume their duties by May 12, 2026, stressing that internal arrangements remain in place for now.
He added that a significant number of Kwankwasiyya-aligned members of the House of Representatives have already exited the ADC in favour of the NDC, describing the development as part of an ongoing political realignment within the movement.
