A True Honour” — Trump Sends Strong Message Of Support To Tinubu

According to Ireporter Online, Trump conveyed the message in a letter dated July 6, 2026, where he praised Tinubu’s efforts in addressing security challenges, particularly attacks affecting Christian communities across the country.

In a statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the US President reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and strengthening security cooperation between both nations.

Trump reportedly described the partnership between Nigeria and the United States as crucial in confronting the growing threat of terrorism across West Africa and other parts of the world.

“I applaud your resolve to tackle the issues affecting your nation, especially the violence affecting Christian communities, and it is a true honour to stand with you in the fight against terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” Trump stated.

The US leader also highlighted the importance of the US-Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap, describing it as a framework designed to enhance collaboration between both countries in combating terrorism.

Trump disclosed that United States Special Operations Forces had been deployed to assist in training and equipping Nigerian Armed Forces personnel with advanced skills, tools and intelligence required to improve national security.

The Presidency stated that Nigeria and the United States have intensified security cooperation through a Joint Working Group led by the National Security Advisers of both countries.

The collaboration, according to the statement, focuses on intelligence sharing, military training and coordinated operations against terrorist groups.

It added that the partnership contributed to a May 16 military operation targeting suspected Islamic State-linked hideouts in the Lake Chad region, which reportedly led to the elimination of terrorist commander Abubakar Al-Minoki and some of his associates.

The Presidency further disclosed that US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Frank Garcia, recently visited Abuja for discussions with Nigerian officials aimed at deepening bilateral relations in security and other areas of mutual interest.

The latest development highlights renewed cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in efforts to address terrorism and strengthen regional security.
