Abia Is APC!’ – Goar & Kalu Hail Huge Ward Congress Turnout
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State successfully conducted its ward congresses across Umuahia North and other local government areas on Wednesday, in what was described as a peaceful and well-coordinated exercise.
According to political observers, the congresses were closely monitored by Emmanuel Goar, Chairman of the APC Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, who led a delegation from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Goar assured that the committee would adhere strictly to the harmonisation directive, promising transparent and credible congresses that reflect the will of party stakeholders. He further stated, “With what I have seen on the ground, I have no doubt that Abia State is APC. With the determination of the members I have witnessed today, APC in Abia State is poised to record a massive victory for President Tinubu in 2027.”
He expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct and organisation of the congresses, noting that the level of participation and enthusiasm demonstrated by party members signals the growing strength of the APC in the state.
Stanley Ohajuruka also commended the impressive turnout, thanking Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu and other stakeholders for ensuring a smooth and credible exercise. He congratulated successful ward leaders and reminded them of their responsibility as grassroots leaders, emphasizing that the performance of ward executives is pivotal to the party’s success and crucial in securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Before the ward congresses, Deputy Speaker Kalu addressed party members at the Renewed Hope Partners office in Umuahia, reiterating the party’s commitment to harmonisation as a tool to strengthen unity and cohesion. “Harmonisation ensures inclusiveness by giving all stakeholders a sense of belonging in selecting leaders from the ward to the state level. No individual owns the party,” he said.
Kalu stressed that the party is sovereign and belongs to all members. He added that deviations from party decisions would not be tolerated, with the National Chairman and NWC prepared to intervene when necessary. This framework facilitated his return to Abia to oversee the harmonised congresses, aimed at restoring ownership of the party to grassroots members.
The ward congresses mark a key stage in the APC’s internal democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections. The congress process is set to continue on Thursday, February 26, 2026, with the Local Government Congresses across Abia State.
