“Acting Is A Mad People’s Job” – Etinosa Idemudia Declares Acting Tougher Than Engineering
Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Etinosa Idemudia, has described acting as one of the most demanding professions, even more challenging than engineering. Speaking during an appearance on the Bold Enough To Say It podcast, Idemudia reflected on her experiences in both fields, emphasizing the mental and emotional toll acting takes on those who pursue it.
According to Ireporter Online, the actress stated that while engineering operates within a structured and predictable environment, acting requires long hours, erratic schedules, and deep emotional commitment. She noted that the craft often pushes individuals to their limits, both physically and psychologically, making it a career suited only for those with extraordinary passion and resilience.
Idemudia expressed disappointment at how some people underestimate actors, urging her colleagues not to feel inferior to professionals in other fields. She stressed that acting demands more than talent—it requires emotional depth, mental strength, and adaptability to embody different characters convincingly.
Sharing a glimpse into her personal experience, she remarked, “I have been an engineer and I have been an actor; no offence to my colleagues in the engineering world, but I dare say that being an actor is much more tasking. It’s a crazy kind of work. It’s a mad people’s work.”
She concluded by advising actors to stay proud of their profession despite external criticism, adding humorously, “Don’t let those people that close by five PM come and be insulting us.”
